Did I mention I love October? We’re two days in now, and I’m already dreading the speed with which time will pass me by. The leaves outside my window are still too green, but the chilled air is all autumn. Horror movies and pumpkin-flavored treats are all I can think about. Last October, something incredibly important was missing. I felt empty like a Jack O’ Lantern with only the faint glow of a flickering candle to fill the void. I wonder if this year, that will change.
But wait, there’s another reason I’m writing today. One month ago my story, “Fixing a Hole,” was published in the print version of A cappella Zoo. Just in time for the best month of the year, they’ve made the issue available to view for free online. Go read “Fixing a Hole” and let me know what you think. (I’m on page 74).
This year has been pretty good in terms of sales. If you missed anything, I have all of the available fiction linked on my “Works” page, and the newer stuff on the homepage. And of course there’s still some big stuff to come.
My novel looks to still be on track for a November release. Black Ink Horror (featuring the bloodiest, most disturbing story I’ve ever written, “Loosely Enforced Rules” complete with illustrations) will be coming out very soon. In January I’ll have a story in the Arcane Magazine Anthology. And with any luck, a couple other stories may be picked up, including the possible reprint of “Inside the Walls of East Lombard Street” in the upcoming Spirit of Poe anthology. I’m still waiting on a reply from my submission, but my fingers are crossed tight.
Speaking of Poe, if you haven’t heard, the Poe house in Baltimore has lost its funding. Literary Landmark Press is putting together to aforementioned anthology to help keep the house open. If you’d like to help support them, please purchase a pre-order copy of the anthology.
Finally, today’s October link: Halloween Army
I love October too – cant wait to read “fixing a hole”
thanks for the visit
There are so many overtures or perhaps aperture is the right word ;P in Fixing A Hole. I think you can imagine what mine might have been reading that…fixing a hole indeed.
Awesome short! Won’t say much more, don’t want to ruin the surprise for anyone else. (Hugs)Indy
Hmmm, I owe you an e-mail. 😉
lovely and gruesome and Octoberish.
🙂 Thanks!
A fun, gruesome read — the details leading up to the big reveal were perfect, and the tense friendship set me on edge from the second page. Bravo!
Thanks, Milo! So glad you liked it.
Nice premise. Very creepy and also quite funny – get the yellow pages to look up the number for the FBI. Ha!
Thanks, Cate! 🙂
It really has been a great year for you, Tony — and that’s to our benefit, for sure. I’m really, really looking forward to this bloody and disturbing one — all of them, to be honest, but let’s face it, I’m a little bit sick.
