A query letter last night resulted in a quick response this morning stating that the editors are still reading for the May issue and should have selections soon.
I normally don’t query about my submissions, but this one has been out for three months and I felt the need to check on it. I remember when I first started writing and submitting 4 years ago. I’d say at least 50% of my submissions went unanswered.
I blame myself. I was still new at this, and I probably sent horrid submission packets with gnarled formatting and elementary writing that made the editors cringe. Now I know that sometimes submissions just get lost in the slush pile or in the mail. So, I query.
