Book of Dark Wisdom

I am a firm believer in researching the markets I plan to submit to.

I just ordered an issue of Dark Wisdom, a dark literature magazine. It pays professional rates (5 cents a word), and looks pretty cool to boot. Interested in ordering a copy or submitting?

DARK WISDOM

Come on people. If you are a horror writer, and you refuse to buy a few copies of the very magazines you try to appear in, then you are helping to kill horror. You have to support the art if you want to make money doing it.

Look around. How many markets are there for horror writers that pay professional rates? I’ll tell you. Not many. Most of the markets I come across are web based zines that pay nothing.

I don’t mean to put down these markets. Hell, most of them publish some damn good fiction. But there are some that have no scruples about what they publish, and this simply decreases the value of the horror market as a whole.

Sorry. I didn’t mean to get on this topic. It just sprouted naturally from my fingers.

And yes, it is nice to have a place where beginning writers can publish, but we need places with higher standards too–even if that means they won’t publish my work. (See, I can be self deprecating too.)

I will post a review of Dark Wisdom once I receive it in the mail.

  1. Tony, your blog site is totally awesome. I keep wondering how you do it. Mine is just so plain, dull. How do you get all those special effects?

Mostly I just upload pictures through the posts, but some of the sidebar stuff I have to save to an ftp server. Like if you click on the picture underneath my photo (it looks like a star with something inside it on a white background), it will bring you to a cartoon i made. That I had to put on the FTP server an upload from there.

I’m glad you like the site. I’m dying to get a real website for my writing, but I feel like I should wait till I have some more stuff pubbed.

  3. Hey, I remember “Dandelion Dreams.” Good going that you got it published.

So, what’s an FTP server? To me, that’s a foreign language. I’m luck enough to figure out how to surf the internet, let along do fancy stuff. I envy your ability to create a site like this.

Eh, this is nothing. My brother does some great stuff using a program called flash. Really you’re pretty limited with a blog site. You can do so much more with a real web page.

Tell you the truth, I think FTP is File transfer…something…I might have mispoke with that.

Basically I have a free web page thing with geoocites. Then I upload pictures to the webspace they provide. Then I link to them using my blog.
